SKY BLUE REVERIES

It's midnight and I'm running high on adrenaline which makes it hard for me to fall asleep.  Anyway, the past few days I've been indulging myself in videos, tweets, photos, news, and just basically anything related to a show called Shadow and Bone. Now I can't seem to get my head out of fangirling mode, that's how addicting this show is. I don't know what it is about fantasy/sci-fi/dystopian series or movies but when it is executed right, it will always get me hyped up. 

However, this post is not gonna be about me fangirling Shadow and Bone (maybe I'll write something about it another day). Besides, I've done that too much already and I think my friends are getting tired of me for tweeting and posting stories too much of Alina and the Darkling. So we're not gonna go there. 

But we are gonna discuss this particular photo and the caption that's in it.  

While watching Shadow and Bone, you can't deny that there is this raw borderline sexual energy between the character of Alina and the Darkling. Before we go any further though, I must say that it is a problematic and toxic relationship. All of the lies and manipulation that he did to Alina are wrong and you should steer clear from that in any type of relationship in real life. It's not healthy. So yeah, try to keep that in mind. 

Moving on, as much as I love Mal and I know how sincere his love is for Alina (especially since they grew up together and treat each other as equals), a part of me still wishes that Alina and the Darkling will be the final deal. And that photo perfectly describes my emotions. 

Is it possible for a female lead character in ANY SERIES OR MOVIE, like Alina, to just fall in love with the villain (in this case the Darkling) and choose to stand by his side instead of going back to her first love and fight against him? 

LIKE HAS THIS BEEN DONE? HAS IT? I DON'T THINK SO.
(Oh yeah another disclaimer, I'm not saying that I condone abusive and violent behaviors like the Darkling. I'm not. The context here is a villain CHARACTER in a FICTIONAL setting.)

I'm just saying, wouldn't it be fun and refreshing just for once to have a couple where they are both downright evil and do typical villainy stuff together. Especially when you have a villain that can be intriguing and disturbing at the same time. This can provide us as the audience such a fun pov. We then get to see two villains trying to defeat the good guy and whether they succeed or fail that's another thing to think about. 

So if any one of you reading this knows a fantasy/sci-fi/ dystopian movie or series where the two lead characters started out as enemies and then the main female character decided to be a villain and throw away all of her good moral compass followed by wanting to conquer the world together with her villain partner, please let me know.  I personally haven't watch anything with that kind of plot. Perhaps they exist in books, but I don't think they can be found in movies or tv series. Also, we're not talking about other genres. I'd like to emphasize the fantasy/sci-fi/dystopian setting. The story must take place in either of these three settings.

but they're always there

and one thing is for sure

they never left

she kept them to herself

she tried to scream

yet her scream only consisted of muffled voices

she could not understand them

so how could others

she just wants the whispers to be gone

Hi, how are you? I hope you're doing fine. The past six months have been so strange. I try to keep up with recent news and I can't help but to feel sad to see how we all get to this point. I'm not pointing fingers at who is at fault here and who is not, I feel that we all contributed to the mess we have created today.

Reading the news has made me think how bleak the world seems to be right now. It's like all the problems we held off for so long are now attacking us all at once. Where should we start? Just to name a few we have global warming, global pandemic, institutional racism, never ending wars in many parts of the world and these are just the tip of the iceberg, I mean the list is endless.
There are days where seeing the news and scrolling through my social media can feel overwhelming. I can only assume that all of us are trying to make sense of this hellish nightmare that we're currently in. Therefore I'm always glad whenever I found a positive news article because it feels like ray of hope.

Through being in quarantined and social distancing for over four months, I realize how much I take my freedom for granted. The simplest thing such as grocery shopping now feels like a field trip to me. I also realize how privileged I am to be in a position where I can still work from home. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the global pandemic has taught me to be thankful of the simplest things in life, things that I might often overlook.

On a lighter note, I get inspired by seeing how my friends deal with the pandemic. Many of them started their own food business! I guess creativity kicks in when you have time on your hands. Obviously the downside from this is the weight gain due to me eating bunch of food I bought from them. But seriously though they all taste so good and you know that any good food always nourishes the soul. Some of them have also taken interest in decorating their bed room including myself. Probably because their bed room has become the space they spent most of their time in. It's amazing how storage boxes and little knick knacks can truly change the atmosphere of a room. I also see my friends taken up new hobbies, from painting, knitting, to cycling.  I lately really enjoy my evening walk around the neighborhood. 5.30 pm sky never fails to calm me down. It's really nice to see that people are trying to find their own ways to stay positive amid this stressful times.

To remember the fun things I did during quarantine, here are couple of activities I did at home.

• I learned how to do (very basic) Photoshop

• I learned how to drill a wall.

• Played loads of games with my family. Jackbox, Monopoly, and foosball are now my family's go to game. 

• Tried out a few recipes which consists of small-bites pizzas, lemon pepper wings, honey bbq wings, and (misshapen but delicious) cinnamon roll. 

We're all currently in uncharted waters. The problems we're facing today won't probably be gone anytime soon. Till then, I hope we can get through all of this together. Learn new skills, explore new hobbies, be aware of what's happening around you, donate to charities or organizations that you believe in and make sure to not be too hard on yourself.
