I was at home all night

3:18 PM

There is no denying that movie is one of my favorite form of art. Same with books, it teaches you different perspectives and takes you out of your own little world. There is something magical about the emotions and feelings that you're left with after watching a good movie. This past weeks from late November till early December, I've watched a few movies from different kind of genre that I find it worth it to discuss about. Besides today I feel like I want to make my usual posts about books, movies, and music . Let's just get on with it shall we.

1. Some Like It Hot

This movie marks my first Marilyn Monroe's movie. The reason I watched it is because I was curious about Marilyn Monroe. I've never seen any of her movies and I know that this movie and "The Seven Year Itch" are some of her iconic movies that has been mentioned countless times in classic movies list. Without giving much away, the premise of the movie is as follows.
Here we followed Joe and Jerry who are musicians and who happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. They accidentally witness a shooting massacre by a group of gangster. The group of gangster saw them and started to hunt them ever since. To save themselves from getting killed by the mob gangster, they disguised as girls to join an all-girl band that is heading to Florida. In this all girl-band there is Marilyn Monroe who plays the singer of the band named Sugar.  While being undercover as girls, the three of them bonded together and one thing led to another.

It's is a great comedy movie and I certainly enjoy the humor in it. Marilyn Monroe definitely lives up to her nickname as a sex symbol. During the whole movie her character is very cheeky, seductive,  and acted the role of a "dumb blonde" perfectly. Will I watch another movie of her? Probably. To be honest I prefer Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and Ingrid Bergman and Vivien Leigh. But I mean, this is my only Marilyn Monroe's movie that I've watched, so perhaps I'll change my mind in the future. We'll see.

2. 12 Angry Men

This actually was a recommendation by my friends. They were so enthusiastic about this movie and claimed how this movie is one of the best movie they have ever watched. Such enthusiasm and bold statements definitely makes me more curious and excited about this movie.
And it turns out that my two friends are right! It draws you in from the moment they started to sit in the jury room to discuss whether the verdict is guilty or not guilty. The acting in this  movie is stellar to say the least. I mean, the concept and the production of this movie is so simple but it is very well put together and the acting certainly helps boost up this movie. I don't know what else to say other than watch it! You'll be thankful to me later just like I'm thankful for my two friends that recommended me this.

3. Sing Street

Goodbye black and white movies and hello the 80s. No this movie isn't actually from the 80s but the setting of the movie is.  This movie was directed by the one who brought you "Once" and "Begin Again", so you'll know already that this movie includes catchy songs that you're going to sing along with for the upcoming weeks to come.
This movie was so close to brought me to tears, like really close. This movie is neither a tear-jerker nor a comedy either. It's more like a coming of age movie.  Every character is eccentric and have their own quirkiness. This movie reminded me of my old dream of being in a band. Throw back to my early teenage years, I've actually dreamt of being in a band. You know jamming in a basement for hours, performing in front of a cheering audience, those were my old dreams as a teenage girl. No judging please.
Jokes aside, this movie has inspired me and reminded me how we all used to have big dreams as a child but as we grow older people laugh and make fun of our dreams especially if we attempt to try.
The ending might not seem realistic but I think it's a good metaphor for if you want something really bad, you'll just go for it even if it means crossing the sea in a tiny old boat.

 4. Beauty and The Beast

Oh my God Sesia! Are you telling me you've never watched Beauty and The Beast?! Oh my God! How dare you!

I know I know. I apologize if I've shocked you. The truth is there are still many classic disney movies that I haven't watched yet.
Anyway as you all probably know, Disney will release the live action of Beauty and The Beast March 2017.  While watching the trailer my sisters claimed how excited they were because based on the trailer, they saw many resemblance to original animated version. As the only person who didn't know what they were talking about, I decided to finally watch Beauty and The Beast.
I love the fact that their relationship feels realistic to me. In the beginning Belle loathed Beast very much due to his high temper. But slowly, Beast started to show more vulnerability to Belle and she saw that Beast is actually capable of loving. The whole thing didn't feel rushed to me. There was no falling in love at first sight, they actually took the time to get to know each other by becoming friends and finally then they began to develop feeling to one another.
I think I've found my favorite Disney princess. She stands up for herself, very courageous, knows that there is more to life other than her village, a book lover, speaks french, pretty, ugh what more do you want!
My sole reason watching this is so that I won't go to the theater empty headed by the time the movie is released. Now I know who the characters are, the plot, and the iconic ballroom scene. The excitement for the live action is real people!

5. Léon: The Professional

I always knew that Natalie Portman can act. But man, this is her big screen debut and she was only eleven. Like how can she be this good, how how how??

Long story short, it's about a girl who is looking for protection and "cleaning" skills from a hitman (Jean Reno). Together they form this unusual and kinda weird relationship.

Some off the scenes acted out by Natalie Portman were a bit uncomfortable to watch. What I mean by that are the scenes where an eleven year old girl trying to hit seductively on a very much older guy. I don't how Natalie Portman does it, I can't imagine my-eleven-year-old self having to say those lines. Thinking about it makes me cringe already.
But it truly amazes me how good she is at acting out a strong and dark character at such a young age. She is destined to be an actress, I'm just sayin'

Now I want you to guess from which movie this post's title "I was at home all night" is from. Any guesses?
