Let me give you the back story first. This afternoon I came across this musical gem on youtube. And let me tell you something about myself, I love (once again, love) finding new indie singers or bands through youtube, spotify, tumblr etc. It always feels as if someone gives me a delicious treat to my art-craving soul.
My curiosity has led me to find this musical gem that is Parekh and Singh. They are an alternative pop duo from Kolkata and my goodness their music video is so pleasing to the eyes! If you love Wes Anderson, this is definitely right up to your alley. Other than the aesthetically pleasing music video another thing that caught my attention was their lyrics. I don't know what has gotten into me, but somehow I managed to listen intensively to the lyrics from the get-go. On a side note, their debut album is actually released in 2016, so if anyone reading this and is about to mock me "Sesia, do you really think you're cool. I mean this was sooo last year"......well go ahead. I never claimed myself as a music hipster anyway.

I mean..right. This screams Wes Anderson to me. And I totally love it.
Long story short, I downloaded their album, Ocean, on spotify right away and now I'm officially a fan of them. There are a few songs in this album that really spoke to me, but the one that hit home is 'I love you baby, I love you doll".

I don't know about you, but the topic of love and finding a life partner has always been a never ending discussion with my friends. It is (always or most of the time) the central topic of the discussion. I feel now women of today are facing the hard question of choosing between career and getting married. Why do I say this you might ask, well because after numerous discussions I realized that I'm not the only one who has a dilemma about it.
The feeling of being free and not tied down can be deliberating. You can do whatever you want and decide where you want to go in life . For those who want to pursue a high rank career or someone who has a career-focused mindset, this naturally helps quite well. Not going to lie, I've thought about it many times. To be someone who is career oriented and not focusing on the love part. Does any other girl or woman feel the same way that if you choose love over career that there is a huge chance of you not being able to pursue your dreams? Or is it just me..
I honestly don't know why I think that way, since I have a working a mom ever since I was born. And she can perfectly manage having a career and being a wonderful wife and mother for me and my siblings. Yet, this kind of thought still lingers in my head.
Sure having your own money and being able to spend it freely is great. But then again, if I'm looking at the bigger picture, I don't think that it will be emotionally content. Looking at my parents being affectionate with one another or when they bicker about small stuff, made me want to experience that myself. Wouldn't it be nice to have someone who you can lean on, share your joy and sorrow with, and grow old together?
These contradicting thoughts always come and go. One moment it feels good to be alone but then it can be a bit lonely. You want to open up yourself to others but you're scared that you might get hurt along the way. So your brain tells you to close yourself up before it's too late. The heart and brain can be so confusing sometimes. I guess all we can do is try to be more open and at the same time be cautious of the steps we're taking so that we know in which direction we're going.
I'd like to emphasize that all of this is based on my experiences of talking about it with my friends. Whether you want to choose love first or career first, there is no right or wrong. Everyone has their own tempo and you choose what you want to do with your life. In the mean time, let's watch the music video that inspired me to write this post.
